In the May Issue

Mocktails,
by Katherine Waiveris

Welcome to the May edition of the Monterey News.

The May edition of the Monterey News is out, and the Annual Town Meeting is Saturday, with conversations all over town about possible budget increases, a fully professional fire department, and an initiative that could reshape how Monterey grows. And don't forget to vote in the Select Board race on May 5.

There are bears raiding bird feeders, and softball is back on Sundays. The Knox Gallery is alive with Nathan Lawson's incredible masks. Plus, don't miss Katherine Waiveris's imaginative upcoming art exhibition Evidence of Living which opens June 5. And did I mention poetry and a book review of a novel by Lauren Goff?

Highway Superintendent Alan Havill survived a brutal winter. Bonner McAllester welcomes mouse neighbors into the old chicken coop. A daughter writes about her mom's own Passover exodus to Monterey. And three local favorites -- the Bidwell House Museum, Gallerie 271, and the Meeting House -- announce summer events to put on your calendar.

Thirty-two pages of essential Monterey happenings that make our town one of a kind!
